In dermatology, neuromodulators are agents used to treat wrinkles that are caused by facial expression muscles.  The most well known neuromodulator is Botox. However, there are other comparable brands: Dysport, Jeuveau, Daxxify, and Xeomin.  All of these agents treat wrinkles that are created from facial expression; for example, wrinkles between the brows created by furrowing the brows, or forehead wrinkles created by raising the eyebrows.  In addition to treating wrinkles, neuromodulators can give a “mini lift” to the eyebrows and may be used to treat: TMJ problems from muscle enlargement (hypertrophy) due to jaw clenching, platysmal neckbands, or excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Sclerotherapy is the gold standard technique used to treat unsightly spider veins and varicose veins. The procedure involves injecting a solution into the vessels which causes the vessels to collapse and disappear. Compression needs to be worn after the procedure to keep the vessels collapsed and aid in their disappearance. Multiple treatments sessions are often required for optimal results.
